Toyota Motor and Suzuki will produce a new compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) developed by Suzuki in August at Toyota's Indian plant. The annual production is 200,000 units, and it is developed by both Toyota and Suzuki brands. It also plans to launch it outside India, including in Africa. The low-power and high-power hybrid systems that both companies are working on will be installed in vehicles of both brands. This is the first time Suzuki has adopted Toyota's hybrid system in India.
Part of the business alliance concluded in 2017. It will be produced at Toyota's Indian production subsidiary "Toyota Kirloskar Motor".
As for the hybrid system, Suzuki will handle the "mild hybrid" with a small motor output, and Toyota will handle the "strong hybrid" with a large output. This is the first time Toyota has produced an electrified product in India. The engine will be procured from a local subsidiary of Toyota Industries.
Initially, it was planned to produce Suzuki's SUV "Vitara Brezza", but after scrutinizing market needs, it decided to launch another new model. Details such as the vehicle name and release date will be announced on July 1.
