Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Yui Suzaki wins her first championship
The U-23 (under 23) World Wrestling Championships were held in Pontevedra, Spain, on October 20. Yui Suzaki, 23, a gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, won the 50-kilogram final with a comfortable victory over an Indian competitor to win the championship for the first time.
In the final, she dominated her opponents right from the start and won by fall. She won all four matches in this tournament without scoring a single goal.
Suzaki has won five major world championships, including the Cadet (now U-17), Junior (now U-20), and Senior World Championships, as well as the Olympics. According to the Japan Wrestling Association, this is the first time for a male or female wrestler to win all five Grand Slam events. Suzaki mentioned "I was so happy to win the U-23 title and achieve the world's first Grand Slam,"
